The union

Who does what, so you go to the right place first.

Mpumalanga Cycling Union is the non-profit provincial federation for cycling in Mpumalanga, South Africa. In affiliation with Cycling South Africa, the union develops, promotes and governs all cycling disciplines across the province, from grassroots participation to provincial championships, serving affiliated clubs and riders equally, without discrimination.

The union sanctions provincial races, keeps the provincial calendar, and selects the provincial teams that go to national championships. It is run by a volunteer committee elected from the province's clubs, and it is registered as a non-profit company, Mpumalanga Cycling Union NPC, registration 2021/777300/08.

Cross-country

Short, hard laps of a circuit a few kilometres round, usually well under two hours. Everyone is on course at once, so you can watch it. Provincial teams for national championships are picked from this discipline.

Where to start

  1. Riders

    Racing a sanctioned event needs Cycling SA membership and, for most categories, a racing licence. A licence requires membership of an affiliated club, so joining a club is the first step.

    Every race on the provincial calendar starts with a conversation with the union. Write early: provincial dates are set ahead of the season.
